Featured Pet - Cocoa

“After 7 years in a shelter. I am ready to retire to a good home with a loving family.”
Here is my story: I was born in August 1996. (Hmm…that makes me 12 years old, but I still have a lot of love for humans.) You see, I have been at the shelter in Simpsonville S.C. (Concerned Citizens For Animals) since March 2001. My owners moved away, and just left me at home by myself. I love the shelter, the caretaker Ben, and all the volunteers are really good to me, but I would really “LOVE” a real home of my own. I know I am special, and I probably haven’t been adopted because most humans seem to want a younger dog, not realizing that we all get better with age. I can only imagine what it would be like to be in a real home with a family, a real bed, TV, a big back yard to just lay around in, and enjoy life: perhaps a little less barking. (Mmm…that sounds good.) All the shelter volunteers, and employees are really trying to find me a home, I have even been on local TV. I love people and children “ALOT”, but I am “NOT” really good with other dogs or cats. The way I see it, I’m old and I deserve a home of my own. I have a touch of arthritis and have to have meds for that, but I am up to date on all my shots, micro-chipped, on heartworm preventive, and have been spayed . I am a beautiful Rotti mix with lots of love and wisdom to share with a home that will give me a chance.

Who We Are

Founded in 1980, Concerned Citizens for Animals (CCA) is a non-profit, 501c(3) animal shelter/rescue group dedicated to promoting animal welfare and eliminating pet overpopulation in Upstate South Carolina.

Mission Statement

CCA shall not destroy any animal unless it is beyond medical care, and suffering would be the permanent result of medical treatment.

CCA shall operate an animal shelter for abandoned, sick, injured or homeless animals.

CCA shall maintain an adoption program to permanently place homeless animals in qualified homes.

CCA shall maintain a low-cost spay/neuter program for the community.

CCA shall strive to prevent to stop any abuse, neglect, or otherwise inhumane treatment of an animal.

CCA's Programs

Adoptions

CCA has an extensive application process which insures the best possible placement for a pet into a new “forever” home. The adoption process is thorough and includes a required written application, a phone interview with an adoptions team member, personal & vet reference checks, as well as a home visit to assure the best possible fit for the adoption. We have found that this process helps to ensure that the human and animal family members are happy in their new lives together.

Volunteer Opportunities

The success of CCA’s events and activities is attributable to our active volunteer base that keeps the organization strong. Volunteer opportunities include:
